Dr. Benoit Mayer is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK LAW). He is also associated with McGill University’s Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Chair in Public International Law, the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), the National University of Singapore’s Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law, Wuhan University’s Research Institute in Environmental Law, and the Earth System Governance project.

His research explores various aspects of international and comparative climate law. After a PhD thesis on the concept of climate migration, Prof. Mayer has increasingly focused on the interpretation of States’ obligations on climate change mitigation arising from climate treaties, customary international law, and human rights treaties. His research has been published in periodicals such as the American Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law, and International and Comparative Law Quarterly, and in monographs published with Cambridge and Oxford University Press.
