Xiangcheng Yuan is a Professor at the Laboratory of Tropical Marine Bio-resources and Ecology, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in 2008 from the Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Coastal Environment Laboratory at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, under the guidance of Professor Paul J. Harrison. He furthered his research as a visiting scholar in Professor Wei-Jun Cai's laboratory at the University of Georgia's School of Marine Science, studying the micro-environmental carbon cycling in corals. His research primarily focuses on the environmental and ecological dynamics of coral ecosystems. His areas of expertise include: 1) Carbon cycling and sequestration mechanisms in coral reef ecosystems; 2) Strategies for the restoration and conservation of coral reef ecosystems; and 3) Investigating the physiological and molecular responses of corals to climate variations. Professor Yuan has published 58 SCI papers and has been awarded 10 national invention patents. He has led a project and a sub-project funded by the National Key R&D Program, two projects under the National Natural Science Foundation, and one provincial Key R&D Program project.
