You will need Renminbi (CNY) to pay your taxi driver. While there are currency exchange counters at the airport terminal, their operating hours are limited. In Qingdao, the most economical and convenient way to obtain Renminbi is through an ATM. However, please note that different banks' ATMs in China accept different cards for cash withdrawals.

3. Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport

The taxi stand at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is located outside Gate 3 on the L1 level of the terminal.

Please follow the airport signs to queue for a taxi.

5. Qingdao Profile

Qingdao, port city, eastern Shandong province, eastern China. It is located on the south coast of the Shandong Peninsula at the eastern entrance to Jiaozhou Bay, one of the best natural harbors in northern China.

Qingdao, an important cultural center, is one of China's main centers for the pursuit of marine science and technology. The beautiful beaches and unique style of city construction make Qingdao a popular tourist destination in the country. The city was selected to host the yachting events during the 2008 Olympic Games.

5.1 Administrative Division

Qingdao currently has six districts i.e. Shinan, Shibei, Licang, Laoshan, Huangdao and Chengyang and four county-level cities of Jimo, Jiaozhou, Pingdu and Laixi.

5.2 Total Area

Qingdao has a total land area of 11282 square kilometers, and a maritime area of 12000 square kilometers, including 1471 square kilometers of urban area.

5.3 Natural Environment

A coastal hilly city, Qingdao has twisted coastline dotted with capes and bays. Jiaolai Plain lies in the middle of the city, with Laoshan standing on its east, Dazhushan, Xiaozhushan and Tiejueshan on its west, and Dazeshan on its north. There are three water systems including Dagu River, North Jiaolai River and coastal rivers. The city is embraced by three bays including Jiaozhou Bay, Aoshan Bay and Lingshan Bay, with the coastline measuring 863 kilometers long, accounting for one-fourth of the total coastline of Shandong Province. Qingdao is also the place where China's zero-meter elevation above sea level begins.

5.4 Economy

Qingdao is one of China's first 14 coastal open cities,and was rated as one of the Best Emerging Business Cities in China by Fortune magazine. Qingdao has formed distinctive characteristics of port,openness, brand, tourism, marine science and technology and Olympic city. In recent years, Qingdao has been promoting the development of a blue economic zone and a high-end industrial cluster. The city has made great efforts to build advanced manufacturing base, high-tech industrial base, modern service base, regional economic center, Northeast Asia international shipping center and national marine research center in order to ensure stable and rapid social and economic development.

Qingdao enjoys the reputation as the capital of Chinese brands. The headquarters of a group of enterprises and brands renowned both at home and abroad such as Haier, Hisense, Tsingtao Beer and Doublestar are located here. Qingdao has five enterprises which have won the national award for quality control, and has 73 nationally-famous trademarks approved by the State Administration for Industry & Commerce. It was successively cited as the capital of Chinese brands and one of the top ten brand cities in China.

5.5 Marine Science Research and Technology

Qingdao is an important center for marine science research and technology and home to several major ocean research institutions including: the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Institute of Oceanology,Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University of China, Chinese Academy of Fishery Science Yellow Sea, Fisheries Research institute and the Laoshan Laboratory.
